5 Tips on Cuba I Wish I Knew Before I Went

1. There are two terminals at the airport. Be sure to remember which terminal your airline is at when you arrive so you know which terminal to get dropped off at when you depart. Our friends went to the wrong terminal and had to pay an extra $10 CUC since the terminals are 2 miles away from each other.

2. If you have a chance, exchange USD to another foreign currency (Euro, Pound, CAD) before you go and use the foreign currency to exchange into CUC when you arrive. You will avoid the 10% penalty imposed on exchanging USD to CUC.

3. Have not only names, but addresses of places you want to go. Taxi cab drivers often don't know where the places are and don't have internet to look it up. They rely on physical addresses to know where they are going.

4. Download google maps offline so you can look up places you need to go offline, since internet is not easily accessible.

5. Make reservations for dinner in advance as most popular restaurants will not be able to accomodate you without reservations. Better yet, make two reservations, or have a backup in case the restaurant is closed. Many restaurants, businesses, and establishments we tried to visit were closed arbitrarily and we had to come up with a backup plan on the spot. Not easy when you don't have internet.

That's it for now! Please let me know if you have any questions or comments below. Happy travels!
